Dry, windy weather in forecast, fire danger increases
The Florida Forest Service’s Blackwater Forestry Center is issuing words of warning for anyone considering any outdoor burning activities in the coming days: Use extreme caution or simply don’t do it.
According to the Florida Forest Service, it has been more than two weeks since most of the three-county area (Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties) has seen rainfall and wildfire danger is on the rise. Add to that a forecast calling for increased winds and low humidity for the next three days and firefighters are bracing for the possibility of significant fire activity.
Gulf Air Group slated to undertake significant expansion at Crestview’s Bob Sikes Airport
One Okaloosa EDC announced today that Gulf Air Group, Inc. has selected Crestview’s Bob Sikes Airport for a competitive expansion project. The anticipated $16,000,000 investment will be applied toward the construction and equipping of a new, state-of-the-art aircraft hangar complex totaling 70,000 SF.
Along with the investment, the company has committed to hiring 55 individuals at an average wage of $89,000 (179% of Okaloosa County’s average wage). These positions are in addition to the 102 employees the company currently employs in their existing facility at Bob Sikes Airport.
Crestview purchases two properties
The former City of Crestview Post Office and the vacant land just east of it will soon be owned by the city.
The two properties, located at 114 and 148 Main Street, were approved for purchase from Crestview Investment Co, LLC, for a price of $135,000.
City breaks ground for fire training facility
Things will soon be a little safer in Crestview and the surrounding communities in North Okaloosa County, at least from a fire safety standpoint.
The City of Crestview broke ground on a fire training facility on Friday that will serve not only Crestview fire fighters, but those in Baker, Holt, Laurel Hill and other local communities.
