Baker traveled to Jay on Friday to renew the football version of The War on Highway Four with a simple plan, run the football. And run the football is just what the Gators did. Baker did not attempt a pass while running for 296 yards on 38 carries. Not surprisingly, senior running back Kayleb Wagner led the way with 26 carries for 224 yards and scored all four Gator touchdowns in the 28-0 Baker win.

Crestview senior outside hitter Gabby Sheffield has made her decision on where she will be playing college volleyball.

She has committed to the University of Mobile, an NAIA school in Alabama.

Lazarius Parks does a little bit of everything for the Crestview football team.

He is a wide receiver and can line up on the outside or in the slot. He is one of the best running backs on the team. And he can play quarterback if needed.

For the second time in less than two weeks Baker and Crestview squared off in volleyball on Monday. Crestview won at home on Sept. 22. The Bulldogs made it a sweep when they took down the Gators in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-21, 25-23.

Battle as it might, the Laurel Hill volleyball team couldn’t overcome Destin on Tuesday falling in five sets by scores of 22-25, 25-17, 25-13, 14-25, 15-5. Raylee McDonald helped Laurel Hill take a quick 2-0 lead in the first set. But for every offensive outbreak the Hoboes mounted the Sharks responded.

Some games just mean more. The annual football game between Baker and Jay, known as the War of Highway 4, is one of those games. This year it’s the Gators making the trip west to meet the Royals in a 7 p.m. game on Friday. Baker senior linebacker and tight end Tucker Martin will be playing in his fourth varsity rendition of the football war.

There will be a familiar face on the opposing sideline when the Crestview football team travels to Tallahassee to play Chiles on Friday. Kevin Pettis, who was the Bulldog coach during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, now leads the Timberwolves.

Following a disappointing loss, like the one Baker suffered at the hands of Northview, many teams would get dismayed. But not the Baker Gators. Under the Friday night lights on Sept. 30, the Baker Gators played host to the Lighthouse Christian Academy Stingrays.

Last year, Lighthouse held Baker to just nine points. Friday night looked a bit different, as the Baker Gators defeated Lighthouse 48 to 7. They earned their fourth win of the season behind a running game that produced six touchdowns on Friday night.

If the 2022 Crestview football season could be summed up in an Elvis Presley song at the halfway point, it undoubtedly would be “Heartbreak Hotel.” Friday night’s game with Niceville was the latest verse to what is becoming an all too familiar song.

Crestview hosted Milton in volleyball on Thursday. And a few things could be said about the match. It wasn’t pretty. And it times it was painful to watch. But it was exciting, maybe too exciting for some.
