As a rule, there is no tying in baseball.
But all-star games often play by their own set of rules and that was the case as East took on West in the Pensacola Sports Association annual game. And not even that rule was firm as members from the East squad were moved to the West dugout shortly before the start of the game so it could be played.

Baker’s Hannah Twitty smiled when it was announced she was the East MVP of the Pensacola Sports Association All-Star Softball Game Friday night.


Twitty pitched a few innings of relief to help the East seal the deal in a 15-9 win over the West at Pensacola State.

Corey Armstrong was at home at the Crestview High School baseball field as he positioned himself behind, and just to the right of the pitcher, during a recent game at the Justin Richards Memorial Scholarship tournament.  

It’s not uncommon for success on the basketball court to translate to success on the football field. Or vise versa. But do athletes really see the impact a different sport can have on another?

School is out but summer football preparation continues for schools in Okaloosa County.

Most coaches will take some vacation time during the early summer or the first week in July to spend with family and perhaps friends. But most will tell you football is on their mind the entire time.

Williams, who turns 26 on June 15 is now the former Crestview Lady Bulldogs basketball coach. He officially starts his new job June 16 as an assistant women’s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at Morehead State University in Morehead, Kent.

Chad Martin cut his teeth on Baker Gators basketball.

A member of the Baker Class of 2004, Martin was a Baker player and an assistant coach under current Baker principal Mike Martello.

A door has been opened for high school athletes in Florida to benefit off their name, image and likeness (NIL).


The FHSAA Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve a proposal at its meeting Tuesday after a lengthy discussion.

Anyone thinking that Baker football coach Matt Brunson would wait until his official start date of July 8 to start working with the Gators doesn’t know Brunson.
Brunson was reintroduced as the top Gator on May 16 at the Maroon and White game. He was on the field Monday when the Gators opened their summer workout.
