We have to applaud the City of Crestview on some recent changes.

It’s impressive when a municipality or business is consistently making the right decisions all the time. However, we’re also impressed when an organization is able to pivot when needed and come up with something better.

The season of Lent is now about half over as we move toward the celebration of Easter. The time of Lent is often seen as a time of fasting.

No, this does not mean driving faster in your vehicle to try to beat the red light. It doesn’t mean running faster as you go for your daily run.

Ben Franklin did a lot of great things for this country. One of his bright ideas that I am not found of, and really hate to be honest, is daylight-saving time.

Well, that’s not entirely true. I actually prefer daylight-saving time. What I don’t like is the switch back to standard time.

The other day, I watched “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” and more than 40 years later it remains an excellent movie on its own and is still the peak of Star Trek in my opinion.

One thing I really paid attention to in this latest viewing of the movie is just how great some of the lines are and how they really have inspired me and have had a small part in forging me into the person I am today.

Much has been written by the national press about Detroit Mercy basketball player Antoine Davis approaching the National Collegiate Athletic Association career scoring record held by Pete Maravich.

Davis, who has played five years of varsity basketball at Mercy, came up three points shy of tying the career scoring record of 3,667 set by Maravich while playing for LSU from 1967-1970. That’s three seasons that Maravich played compared to the five Davis played.

I bought my first car in 2000, a brand-new blue Volkswagen Beetle. To this day, it’s still probably my favorite car that I’ve ever owned.

Back then, buying a car was an exciting experience. It was far and away the most expensive purchase I had made at that point in my life and remained that way for many years.

As many of you may already know, my gallbladder surgery scheduled for Feb. 20 was postponed due to concerns of the anesthesiologist. There are worries that I might possibly have something going on with my heart.

When Sandpaper Publishing purchased the Crestview News Bulletin and Santa Rosa’s Press Gazette from the previous owners and took over the publications at the beginning of last year, the two papers were in bad shape.

When my telephone rang at 12:50 a.m. the person identified herself as a dispatcher with the police department and asked if I was the police chaplain on call.

I said I was. She then said there was an accident at the intersection in front of the church I served and my presence was being requested.
