A local general surgeon is calling it a career after treating the patients of Crestview for 32 years. Dr. Dennis Stewart is a homegrown Crestview native who after receiving his medical degree returned to Crestview in 1991 and has been aiding local patients ever since. He retired Feb. 2.

Troy Young, a Crestview High School Senior, received the Robert and Amy Harper Scholarship at the International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The scholarship is awarded to one high school student who plans a trade career. Out of 72 schools in the State of Florida and over 300 nationwide, Young won the award for his achievements in the building program at Crestview High School. He has earned six certifications in construction and HVAC and is a lead project manager and designer of the Capstone class project.

Two former corrections officers at the Okaloosa County Department of Corrections in Crestview have been charged in connection with a misdemeanor battery involving an inmate Jan. 29. The investigation was launched after the jail’s Professional Standards Department personnel notified the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office about the incident.
