Eagles soar past Bulldogs
There were no best of times and worst of times as Crestview High School’s boys basketball team squared off against a talented South Cobb team out of Georgia in the opening day of play in the Fort Walton Beach High School Basketball Beach Bash on Tuesday.
A miserably slow start to the game by the Bulldogs made for a long day with only the worst of times. That is, unless one considers Crestview didn’t allow the Eagles to go up by 35 points and start a running clock in the second half.
Bulldogs sink Sharks
It was the newest school in Okaloosa County taking on the oldest school in the county when Destin squared off against Crestview in the Basketball Beach Bash at Fort Walton Beach High School.
Crestview’s boys have won more state championships, two, than the number of full seasons the second-year Sharks have completed.
Johnson new floor general for Bulldogs
Crestview boys basketball coach Greg Watson can’t say enough good things about junior point guard A.J. Johnson.
“He’s just unbelievable guy,” Watson said. “He’s where he’s supposed to be all the time. He goes to class and makes good grades.Liberty County too strong for Hoboes
A solid start didn’t lead to a strong finish for the Laurel Hill School boys basketball team on Tuesday night.
The Hoboes battled a taller and longer Liberty County team and came up even at 14-14 at the end of the first quarter. The last three quarters belonged to the Bulldogs as they beat the home team 70-45.
Baker’s Brunson accepts job at Opp
When Baker School athletic director Matt Brunson stepped down as the Gator football coach last spring he said he might one day return to the sidelines one day.
That day came sooner than later for Brunson. Brunson announced on his Twitter account early Wednesday morning that he has accepted the head football coach and athletic director position at Opp High School in Ala.
Baker’s Wagner signs with Southern Illinois
The unlikely story of Kayleb Wagner took the next step forward on Wednesday when the Baker School running back signed a scholarship to play football at Division I Southern Illinois University.
He becomes the first Baker football player to sign with a Division I school since Montae Barto signed with Troy University prior to the 2016 season.
Lady Bulldogs ground Lady Eagles
An early start to a scheduled 6:30 p.m. game didn’t affect visiting Crestview on Monday as the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Niceville for a key district basketball game with the Lady Eagles.
Crestview outscored the home team 20-3 in the first quarter and never looked back en route to a 62-48 win.
Baker standout selected for Team USA junior squad
In many ways Mylee Frazier is the typical athlete at Baker School.
She plays multiple sports, making the smooth transition for volleyball to basketball and then on to softball. And, as is the case with many Gator athletes, she plays travel ball to better hone her skills.
Baker girls outlift Pace
Wednesday proved to be a great afternoon for Baker’s girls weightlifting team.
The 1A Gators hosted 3A Pace. Baker pulled out the double victory taking the Olympic (snatch) lift by a team score of 50-40 and the Traditional (clean and bench) 47-43.
