At Crestview’s Veterans Day Ceremony this morning, U.S. Air Force veteran and Hub City Mayor J.B. Whitten talked about a subject that he kept deeply buried until about four years ago, “when as a Vietnam War veteran, I attended a welcome home that we never received at the end of that war.”
During Monday’s Crestview City Council meeting, City Clerk Maryanne Girard announced she was resigning, effective immediately, following what she said was “a troubling erosion of trust and respect” between her and some council members in recent months.
U.S. Rep. Jimmy Patronis this spring won a special election to replace former U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz in a Northwest Florida district. Patronis, a Republican, served nearly eight years as the state’s chief financial officer before his April election to Congressional District 1. Patronis, whose father and uncle started the popular Captain Anderson’s restaurant in Panama City, also served in the state House and as a member of the Florida Public Service Commission. Homemade ice cream, food trucks, live music, quilting, spinning, loom weaving and other heritage craft demonstrations, children’s activities, Christmas photo sessions, and arts and crafts vendors will all be part of the 19th Annual Baker Heritage Day Festival.
