Errors doom Hoboes
Laurel Hill baseball coach Cory McSween had no explanation for his team’s defensive meltdown against L.E.A.D Academy on Tuesday.
The Hoboes made 10 errors and allowed six stolen bases for by the Lions. Add seven walks and a hit batter and it was recipe for disaster for Laurel Hill.

Coming off a win over Pensacola High School at Blue Wahoo Stadium on Saturday, the Baker baseball team was in for a let down on Monday.

Wyatt Straight didn’t hesitate to sacrifice his body for the good of the team. With a runner charging towards home in the second inning, the Baker freshman raced to the plate, held the ball tightly in his glove and absorbed a hit that knocked him to the ground.
No way was he not going to make the play here in the Gator’s game against Pensacola on a mild evening at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola.

Good pitching, solid defense and timely hitting are the keys to winning in baseball. If you have one element in a game, you can win. If you have two, you have a decent chance of winning.
When all three are clicking, a team will win most of the time.

The Crestview High School baseball team opened the 2023 season against Pine Forest in what could be considered a typical first game on Tuesday. There were plenty of mistakes to go around. There were plenty of good things too.
The good outweighed the bad as the Bulldogs beat the Eagles 9-6.
Baker’s Allison Baggett wins at state for second consecutive year
Allison Baggett had two medals hanging from her neck early Saturday afternoon at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.
