Baker’s Haley Westberry signs with Coastal Alabama

Baker School’s Haley Westberry still has her senior season in basketball season to finish. But she has already taken a big step in her educational and athletic future.
Westberry, an outside hitter for the Lady Gator Class 1A state champion volleyball team, has signed a scholarship to play at Coastal Alabama Community College in Brewton, Ala.

Lady Eagles take down Crestview

The Crestview Lady Bulldogs traveled to Niceville on Monday for a District 1-6A basketball game.
For all practical purposes the game was over at the end of the first period with the Lady Eagles up 17-2. In a twist of fate, Crestview outscored Niceville 17-2 in the fourth quarter.

Area football standouts enjoy one last chance to be on field in 2023

Isaiah Brooks wasn’t even on the varsity football team at Crestview until late in the 2022 season.
And while this year was only his first as a full-time varsity player, the senior standout offensive lineman earned a spot in Friday’s Pensacola Sports Association All-Star Game at Booker T Washington’s Sherman L. Robinson Stadium.

Crestview crushes Choctaw

Anybody hoping for what has become a typical nail biter when the boys basketball teams from Crestview and Choctaw square off would have been disappointed on Friday night. Those hoping for a win at home by the Bulldogs will be overjoyed. The game was close in the first quarter as the Indians led 14-12 at the end of the period. The rest of the night belonged to Crestview as the Bulldogs ran away with a 69-48 win.

West Florida Baptist downs Gators

It would have seemed appropriate if the theme song from the classic TV show M*A*S*H had been playing as the Baker boys basketball team took the court against West Florida Baptist on Thursday evening. A large part of the Gator starting lineup was out with injuries. To make matters worse, starting post player Levi Hunter went down with an ankle injury early in the game after scoring one basket.

Lady Cats too strong for Lady Gators

The last 10 or 12 minutes of Thursday’s girls basketball game between the Baker Lady Gators and Paxton looked as much like a game of keep away or hot potato as it did basketball. Baker’s attempt to keep the ball out of the hands of the potent Lady Cat offense didn’t change the outcome of the game, a 53-21 win.

Chloe Ates signs with St. Leo

It has been almost four months since Baker School volleyball libero Chloe Ates to committed to play for St. Leo University, a Catholic school in St. Leo located near Tampa. Tuesday, Dec. 12, Ates, the libero on Baker’s state championship team, made it official signing with the Lions.

Crestview’s Mary Richard was born to play soccer

It’s safe to say that Crestview High School’s Mary Richard was born to play soccer.

Her father, Louis Richard, is a former assistant coach at Auburn University and Ole Miss. Her four siblings are soccer players. She has been playing since she was three.

Looking back at Crestview’s football season

Every new sports season brings an adventure all its own. Teams that are considered preseason contenders fall to postseason pretenders. Teams that nobody considered in the preseason catch fire and make a long run into the playoffs.
