Randy’s Report
I am a Roger Maris fan. I’m so much a Roger Maris fan that when I was 9 years old, I bought a 34-ounce Roger Maris model baseball bat, which was much too heavy for me to actually swing at that age.
Most people are familiar with the name of Roger Maris. Most even know that in 1961 he hit 61 home runs to break the record of 60 homers set in 1927. Many of you will know that for 30 years an asterisk was next to the record.

Sidewalk fund great example of Crestview’s flexibility
We have to applaud the City of Crestview on some recent changes.
It’s impressive when a municipality or business is consistently making the right decisions all the time. However, we’re also impressed when an organization is able to pivot when needed and come up with something better.

For God’s Sake: From what will you fast? With what will you replace it?
The season of Lent is now about half over as we move toward the celebration of Easter. The time of Lent is often seen as a time of fasting.
No, this does not mean driving faster in your vehicle to try to beat the red light. It doesn’t mean running faster as you go for your daily run.

It’s time to end time changes
Ben Franklin did a lot of great things for this country. One of his bright ideas that I am not found of, and really hate to be honest, is daylight-saving time.
Well, that’s not entirely true. I actually prefer daylight-saving time. What I don’t like is the switch back to standard time.

Life lessons from ‘The Wrath of Khan’
The other day, I watched “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” and more than 40 years later it remains an excellent movie on its own and is still the peak of Star Trek in my opinion.
One thing I really paid attention to in this latest viewing of the movie is just how great some of the lines are and how they really have inspired me and have had a small part in forging me into the person I am today.

Randy’s Report
Much has been written by the national press about Detroit Mercy basketball player Antoine Davis approaching the National Collegiate Athletic Association career scoring record held by Pete Maravich.
Davis, who has played five years of varsity basketball at Mercy, came up three points shy of tying the career scoring record of 3,667 set by Maravich while playing for LSU from 1967-1970. That’s three seasons that Maravich played compared to the five Davis played.

Does car-buying have to be a chore?
I bought my first car in 2000, a brand-new blue Volkswagen Beetle. To this day, it’s still probably my favorite car that I’ve ever owned.
Back then, buying a car was an exciting experience. It was far and away the most expensive purchase I had made at that point in my life and remained that way for many years.

Randy’s Report
As many of you may already know, my gallbladder surgery scheduled for Feb. 20 was postponed due to concerns of the anesthesiologist. There are worries that I might possibly have something going on with my heart.
I know many of you are questioning if I even have a heart. I raised that point to the doctors, but they didn’t buy it.

We’re still a work in progress, but making good progress
Today you might notice a small change on the front of your newspaper that has a big meaning for us.
When Sandpaper Publishing purchased the Crestview News Bulletin and Santa Rosa’s Press Gazette from the previous owners and took over the publications at the beginning of last year, the two papers were in bad shape.

Randy’s Report
It seems every day there are reminders that I’m getting older.
Having my gallbladder removed is a sure sign I’m no longer a kid. Another of those signs is the passing of the favorite baseball players of my youth.
