No bids received for Main Street renovation project
The City of Crestview was unsuccessful in its second attempt at finding a contractor to complete the planned multi-phase renovations to Main Street.
The city has been seeking a contractor to complete the large-scale renovations since late last year. The city initially went out for bids on the project in September, but no company submitted a bid proposal within the 30-day deadline.

Librarian of 36 years retires
A librarian who has dedicated many years to bringing literature to the readers of Crestview will be retiring on Jan. 31.
The City of Crestview and the Parks and Recreation Department recognized Anna Florence for her 36-year service at the Crestview Library during the City Council meeting on Jan. 23.

Good times to roll at the Bush House
Laissez les bons temps rouler — let the good times roll — is the mantra between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Feb. 11 when the Crestview History Museum celebrates Mardi Gras for its monthly Second Saturday opening. The family-friendly observance of New Orleans’ pre-Lenten carnival lets much of the “good times roll” while leaving the more raucous parts to French Quarter celebrants.
“We’re going celebrate the best aspects of Mardi Gras,” Crestview’s Cultural Services specialist Brian Hughes said. “The festive — some might say tacky — decorations, king cake, nonalcoholic hurricane punch, beads, and live jazz music will spice up the museum and the big front porch. But there will be absolutely nothing naughty going on out on the balcony!”

Renamed East-West connector to honor fallen officers
After several unsuccessful attempts to name the East-West connector, a name has been selected that will honor the fallen heroes of Okaloosa County.
The East-West connector is part of the extensive bypass project that is underway to alleviate traffic congestion. This new route will connect Arena Road to Highway 85. The road’s purpose was clear; however, the name had been more difficult to declare.

Crestview rapper to perform in Arizona Super Bowl weekend
A local rapper will be showcasing his talents at a contest in Glendale, Arizona, during Super Bowl weekend.
Brandon Lee Joseph is a local artist who won a slot in the Who Wants to Make it in Music Showcase event that will take place live in Glendale, Arizona, on Feb. 12 during the Super Bowl.

Crestview continuing opioid education following Overdose Summit
The City of Crestview continues to work on ways to educate the community about the dangers of Fentanyl and what actions to take following the city’s recent summit.
The Overdose Summit took place Jan. 18 at the Crestview Community Center and was hosted by the City of Crestview and the Opioid Project, a nonprofit organization designed to help community leaders find ways to reduce opioid deaths in their community.

City of Crestview hosts first Overdose Summit in Okaloosa County
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported more than 100,000 overdose-related deaths throughout the nation last year, with 7,800 deaths in Florida.
Opioid usage and overdoses have continued to rise every year since 2019 and have grown to epidemic levels affecting communities across the country and citizens from all walks of life.

Crestview woman slams door at warrants
A Crestview woman with warrants in both Okaloosa and Santa Rosa counties allegedly slammed the door on law enforcement officers and refused to come out for several hours as they attempted to detain her.
Heather Sutton, 33, of Crestview, was arrested Jan. 23 for outstanding warrants and resisting an officer.
