It’s safe to say that Crestview High School’s Mary Richard was born to play soccer.

Her father, Louis Richard, is a former assistant coach at Auburn University and Ole Miss. Her four siblings are soccer players. She has been playing since she was three.

Every new sports season brings an adventure all its own. Teams that are considered preseason contenders fall to postseason pretenders. Teams that nobody considered in the preseason catch fire and make a long run into the playoffs. 

David Oglesby is the only girls weightlifting coach in the history of Baker School.

Now in his 19th year leading the Lady Gator program, Oglesby believes Baker has what it takes to make another deep run to state.

A chilly night at Jack Foster Stadium greeted the Crestview and Choctaw boys soccer teams on Thursday night.
At times it felt as if the only thing cooler than the weather were the two offenses.

It wasn’t hard to hear the frustration in the voice of Crestview High School boys basketball coach Greg Watson on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs didn’t play well against visiting Gulf Breeze and it showed not only on the scoreboard, but in the scorebook as well. The Dolphins won 62-55. It’s the way they won that had Watson upset.

Sometimes a moral victory isn’t a bad thing.
Such was the case on Monday, December 4, when the Crestview Lady Bulldog soccer team hosted perennial power Mosley.

The Baker Lady Gators basketball team scored all the points it needed for the win in the first quarter of Thursday’s home opener against Aletheia Christian.
The Lady Gators outscored the Lady Lions 13-2 in the first quarter and led 28-4 at the half.

Any coach in almost every sport will tell you the bigger, stronger and more athletic team should win the game.
Such was the case when Baker hosted Aletheia on Thursday.

Mike Davis could easily be retired now. The 67-year-old veteran educator has put in his years in the classroom and numerous gyms in the Okaloosa-Walton County area.

It’s safe to say Davidson Middle School girls basketball coach Courtney Chessher knows a thing or two about the game.
