Wilder Kersey has been around the Baker School track and field program for a large part of his life. He was a member of the team while in school at Baker and for the last several years has coached Baker’s boys and girls teams.

There are few things that put a smile on the face of a softball or baseball coach like a big inning. That big inning is exactly what Baker’s softball team had on Thursday as it played host to Central. Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning the Lady Gators clung to a slim 8-7 lead. Fourteen batters and eight runs later the lead was 16-7.

Kennedy Baluran has moved from basketball to flag football with the same grace and precision she shows when leading the Crestview basketball team at point guard.

Lady Bulldog pitchers Jules Forrest and Cambell Toolan combined for a 5-hitter and struck out eight Choctaw batters on Tuesday. The result was a 4-2 win for the Crestview softball team.

Laurel Hill senior shortstop Benny Hudson might be considered an old school baseball player.

In an age when players use batting gloves to get a firm grip, Hudson does what players in generations gone by did, he picks up a handful of dirt and rubs his hands to get a firm grip on the bat.

The 2024 baseball season got off to a rough start for Laurel Hill on Thursday with the Hoboes dropping the opener 10-1 to Aletheia Christian Academy.

Crestview’s flag football team hosted Pace in the home opener on Friday night with the Lady Patriots coming out on top 14-6. The only Lady Bulldog score came on a touchdown pass from senior quarterback Kaitlyn Kemp to freshman receiver Taliana Matienzo with 3:41 left in the first quarter. Pace tied the game early in the second quarter and scored the game winner late in the third period.

Some of the top high school weightlifters in the state of Florida gathered in Baker on Wednesday for the Baker Invitational Meet. Ten schools were on hand including Santa Rosa County powerhouses Pace, Navarre and Milton. Baker and Crestview were joined by Okaloosa County neighbors Choctawhatchee, Fort Walton Beach and Niceville. Rounding out the field were Pensacola Catholic and Wewahitchka.

There was no joy in Crestview High School baseball complex on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs opened the season with a talented Mosley squad and were no match for the visiting Dolphins. Crestview managed just two hits by Anthony St. Vincent in a 7-0 loss.

Dan Byerly is now in his third year as the Crestview High School tennis coach, and he said the Lady Bulldogs are in a bit of a rebuilding stage at this point.
