Crestview’s football team would have loved to win its Sept. 13 game against state power Niceville.


It was a game against one of the state’s best teams, and a rival, but the Bulldogs missed some chances that perhaps would have swayed the momentum in a 35-14 loss.

Baker needed a bounce back performance, and the Gators got one in a big way on Friday night against North Bay Haven Academy.

Baker volleyball coach Chelsea Medley wasn’t surprised at all that her team was tested throughout its rivalry match against Jay Thursday night.


It was, after all, the latest edition of the War on Highway 4.

Crestview’s volleyball team was in position to knock off Pace last Tuesday night in a District 1-6A match at home.


The Bulldogs had forced a fifth and decisive set against the Patriots, winning 25-21, and were hoping to close the deal.

The first set of regional rankings are out for volleyball and several local teams are in the mix for a playoff spot.


Reigning state champion Baker is ranked fourth in the rural region.

Baker head coach Matt Brunson gathered his team on the field after a Friday tough night in the War on Highway 4 against rival Jay.


The Gators lost the game 41-0 at Merle V. North Stadium and the cheers from the Jay fans could be heard as Brunson talked with his team.

Crestview had opportunities to keep it close, but Niceville took control early and didn’t look back in a battle of the rivals on Sept. 13.

Layne Brewer scored three rushing touchdowns to lead Baker to a 42-7 win over Central on Sept. 6.

Crestview’s football team wasn’t without its chances last Friday night against Choctaw. The Bulldogs were in position to score a handful of times but simply couldn’t finish the drive.


The result was a 14-0 loss to the Indians on the road. The Bulldogs drop to 2-1 on the season.

Crestview scored twice in the second half and held off Walton 28-21 in a wild game at home last Friday night.


Jay McQueen helped lead the way for the Bulldogs, scoring twice, while the defense allowed just one offensive score as Crestview improved to 2-0.
