Rain changes summer approach for Bulldogs
Local football coaches are likely to feel like calling out the old childhood chant of, “Rain, rain go away come again another day,” as showers seem to be falling more often this summer and at a heavier than usual pace.
This is the time during the summer when most teams are going through summer conditioning drills, but Crestview and teams throughout the area are being forced inside as rain and lightning are causing havoc with normal summer plans.
Crestview boys basketball team wraps up summer drills
Crestview High School boys basketball coach Greg Watson and the other Bulldog coaches that use the CHS gym will tell you there is no place like home.
Last summer required the coaches and their teams to be road warriors for practices and games as the school replaced the original hardwood court that had been in place since the school opened in 1969. This summer the teams have all the comforts and benefits of being at home.
Baker football team going strong in summer program
The Baker football team took to the field for summer workouts on June 12.
And while some teams have been dodging the rain, the Gators have been more fortunate.
Weight room improvements benefit all CHS athletes
It has been more than a decade since the Crestview High School athletic program moved into a spacious weight room in the field house. But the new strength home didn’t necessarily mean the school bought all new equipment.
And with close to 20 teams, male and female, using the equipment year-round, there was bound to be some wear and tear associated with aging.

Crestview High School’s volleyball team is hard at work this month preparing for the upcoming volleyball season which is only two months away.
The off season process this year is much easier than last when the school was replacing the gym floor forcing the team to become nomads when looking for practice space. Now all coach James Kerrell has to do his typical coaching duties without trying to schedule gym space.

June is a busy month for most high school teams no matter what the sport.
Teams only have so many days of summer to work and get better before the start of the school year. Football teams usually spend the entire summer putting in the time before practices officially start on July 31.

Catching up with former Baker Gator Jonathan Ramos
Two decades have passed since Jonathan Ramos last suited up for the Baker Gators.
As a junior in the fall of 2001, he was a member of Jeff Webb’s last football team at Baker. The following fall, in 2002, as a senior, he was member of Bill Sharpe’s first football team. In the spring of 2003, he finished his Baker athletic career with the Gator track team.
Baker grad Maya Espinosa is on the move
Maya Espinosa has been running on the fast track of life since her middle school days.
As a seventh and eighth grader at Baker School, Espinosa was somewhat of a distance-running prodigy for the Gator cross country and track teams.
