Gardner looking for consistency as Gators start fall camp
With the official start of fall practice earlier this week the countdown to the 2023 football season has officially started.
The Baker Gators travel to Northview Aug.18 for the Kickoff Classic with the Chiefs. They open the season at home against South Walton a week later on Aug. 25.
Carlisle named Baker athletic director
John Carlisle is slowly but surely settling into his new office in the Baker School fieldhouse.
The longtime Baker softball coach and assistant football coach has traded his math classroom and coaching gear for the trappings of athletic director.
Carter is State Champion
It was another banner year for the Baker School boys weightlifting team. The Gators won their fourth consecutive district championship. They also placed third in the region in both the traditional and snatch out of 23 teams.
The Gators finished off the season with a strong showing at the state meet. Led by the performance of junior Carter Glenn, who won the 139-pound state title in the snatch, Baker finished fifth among 96 teams in the snatch and was ninth in the traditional.Grant looking for consistency as Bulldogs start hitting
After more than two months, of waiting since spring practice ended, high school football teams from across the state will once again be allowed to put on the pads and start hitting on August 5, a Saturday, but most teams will wait until Monday, Aug. 7.
Teams opened practice on July 31 and aren’t allowed to put on the full gear until Aug. 5.

Year in and year out the Davidson Middle School football team is one of the best in Okaloosa County. Often the biggest obstacle standing in the way of the Panthers and a county championship is Crestview rival Shoal River.
Laurel Hill girls feel the love
LoveHandlez basketball is quickly becoming a go-to organization for helping young basketball players develop their skills.
Based out of Dothan, Ala., it’s run by Ashley Beverly Kelley, a former player at Troy University who currently plays professionally in Europe.
Lady Bulldogs host volleyball camp
The Crestview High School volleyball team hosted a youth camp for young ladies in grades three-eight last week and again this week.
The first week of the camp was an unmitigated success and Lady Bulldog coach James Kerrell was pleased with the turnout.
Injury hasn’t changed John Gillis’ baseball dream
John Gillis still has big baseball dreams that include one day playing pro baseball.
Gillis played baseball and football at Crestview. The latter part of his senior football season, he was the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. But baseball always has been his first love, which is to be expected as his father, Tim, is a former minor league player and the Crestview baseball coach.
