The Crestview High School volleyball team hosted a youth camp for young ladies in grades three-eight last week and again this week. The first week of the camp was an unmitigated success and Lady Bulldog coach James Kerrell was pleased with the turnout.

John Gillis still has big baseball dreams that include one day playing pro baseball.

Gillis played baseball and football at Crestview. The latter part of his senior football season, he was the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. But baseball always has been his first love, which is to be expected as his father, Tim, is a former minor league player and the Crestview baseball coach.

The summer workouts have come to an end for Laurel Hill School’s girls basketball team.

The arrival of July means it’s time for most of the basketball players to turn their attention to volleyball season, which starts next month.

Jay Stanton’s football journey seems to be winding to an end. A member of the Crestview High School Class of 2019, Stanton has been a member of the Samford University football team since that fall.

Crestview’s football team took to the field at Jack Foster Stadium on a warm June 28 evening for a seven-on-seven game with Destin. No score was kept in an event that marked the halfway point in summer drills. Bulldog head coach Thomas Grant saw things to work on and other things the team can build on when returning to the field July 10.

The City of Crestview resumed its popular sports camps this summer after a few years absence due to the pandemic. At the top of the camp wish list was the fishing camp, taught by Crestview High School outdoor education teacher Ernie Martin.

Pearson McDaniel only spent a year at Crestview High School but it was good year. A 2023 Crestview graduate, McDaniel enrolled at CHS last summer after spending his first three years of high school at Fort Walton Beach.

Local football coaches are likely to feel like calling out the old childhood chant of, “Rain, rain go away come again another day,” as showers seem to be falling more often this summer and at a heavier than usual pace. This is the time during the summer when most teams are going through summer conditioning drills, but Crestview and teams throughout the area are being forced inside as rain and lightning are causing havoc with normal summer plans.

Crestview High School boys basketball coach Greg Watson and the other Bulldog coaches that use the CHS gym will tell you there is no place like home. Last summer required the coaches and their teams to be road warriors for practices and games as the school replaced the original hardwood court that had been in place since the school opened in 1969. This summer the teams have all the comforts and benefits of being at home.
