Gators suffer tough loss
Baker School baseball coach Preston Nixon summed up Tuesday’s game between the Gators and visiting Winona Miss., well.
“It was a very strange game,” he said. “We left too many runners on base all night and didn’t capitalize. We made too many errors throwing the ball around. And we have to clean some stuff up moving forward.”
Paige Dietz is at home in her happy place
Throughout her years at Crestview High School, senior Paige Dietz has played volleyball and golf, but it’s on the softball diamond that she feels most at home.
Laurel Hill falters in late innings
The Laurel Hill baseball team gave Florala all it could handle for three innings on Monday in a bit of a homecoming game.
Wildcat coach Tyler Zessin was a player when Hobo coach Cory McSween was the LHS assistant coach. Zessin’s father, Kent, was the longtime boys basketball coach and volleyball coach.

Crestview brought a few wrestlers to the Navarre Invitational last Wednesday.
Niceville shuts down Lady Bulldogs
Crestview’s Lady Bulldog softball team battled rival Niceville on Thursday in a game that had plenty of positives.
The biggest positive was that the Lady Bulldogs held Niceville scoreless for the final five innings behind the pitching of Cambell Toolan. Another positive was Crestview battled the full seven innings.
Baker Gators roll to big win in baseball
When it rains, it pours. And that was a good thing for the Baker baseball team last Monday against Santa Rosa Christian.
Hoboes fall to Bobcats
To be the best you have to beat the best. Beating the best was the task the Laurel Hill baseball team faced on Monday when hosting rival Paxton.
For more than 20 years the Bobcats have consistently been among the best 1A teams in Northwest Florida if not the state. This year’s version of the Bobcats, led by 2001 LHS graduate Nate Moore, should again be one of the better 1A teams in the area.
Baker track team looks to have a strong season
Wilder Kersey has been around the Baker School track and field program for a large part of his life. He was a member of the team while in school at Baker and for the last several years has coached Baker’s boys and girls teams.
Lady Gators double up on Central
There are few things that put a smile on the face of a softball or baseball coach like a big inning.
That big inning is exactly what Baker’s softball team had on Thursday as it played host to Central. Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning the Lady Gators clung to a slim 8-7 lead. Fourteen batters and eight runs later the lead was 16-7.
Kennedy Baluran sets the tone for Lady Bulldogs
Kennedy Baluran has moved from basketball to flag football with the same grace and precision she shows when leading the Crestview basketball team at point guard.
