The Shoal River Middle School Mustangs are celebrating a recent championship over Ruckel Middle School. According to Head coach Del Phillips, this Shoal River team is one of the best he has been around.

Crestview girls weightlifting coach Alex Pottinger has watched his team take steps forward throughout the season and the Bulldogs showed off that progress last Wednesday at the District 1-3A meet in Niceville.

The Bulldogs had one district champion in Madi Muse, who prevailed in 110-pound weight class in the traditional meet of bench press and clean and jerk with a total lift of 295 pounds.

It’s not that Crestview head boys basketball coach Greg Watson enjoys games where the pressure begins to rise and things get a little too close for comfort.

But at the same time, those are the moments that benefit a team, and Watson believes his Bulldogs learned from the experience of a tightly contested 64-60 win over Navarre Tuesday night.

The latest regional rankings are out in the various winter sports as hopes remain intact for area teams to reach the postseason.

The top eight teams at the end of the year make the regional, with the four district champions earning an automatic berth.

Crestview defensive coordinator Adam Robertson intended to only be a marine reservist when he signed up for the service.
