For God’s Sake: Human life cannot not be replaced
When my telephone rang at 12:50 a.m. the person identified herself as a dispatcher with the police department and asked if I was the police chaplain on call.
I said I was. She then said there was an accident at the intersection in front of the church I served and my presence was being requested.

For God’s Sake: Make time for reflection and repentance
Max Lucado wrote: “If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist.
If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. But since our greatest need was forgiveness, God sent us a Savior.”

Governor announcements make planning difficult
There’s something that has bothered me about the way Gov. Ron DeSantis does business since he took office in early 2019 and it has nothing to do with his politics.
I’ve been covering the news in Northwest Florida for close to 20 years now at different publications.

Let’s rethink Black History Month
It’s time for the United States to rethink Black History Month. And not just Black History Month.
We need to reconsider every “set-aside” day, week and month.

Randy’s Report
It’s hard to believe I’ve been back at the News Bulletin for a year.
Tuesday, Feb. 14, I celebrate one year back in the saddle doing what I love.

It’s not the years, it’s the mileage
In a lot of ways, I haven’t minded getting older.
Despite a couple of back surgeries (in fact, I am writing this column on the 10th anniversary of my first), I am a rather healthy guy in my mid-40s.

Randy’s Report
As a junior on the 1974 Gulf Breeze High School football team, it was the week of the Catholic game when the two largest players on the team got into an off-the-field fight.
Where the fight took place wouldn’t make for good reading in a family newspaper.
