The Crestview office of the Seniors Vs. Crime program is down to two senior volunteers, with one moving soon, and needs seniors 55 and older who are willing to work a couple of hours per week helping other seniors.

North Okaloosa Medical Center planning for significant ER expansion
North Okaloosa Medical Center today announced planning for a multi-million dollar expansion to the hospital’s emergency room to increase capacity and enhance the care provided. Patient visits to the hospital’s ER have grown by approximately 30% since 2020.

Homeless in the heat
An ambulance recently had to be called three times in one week to the nonprofit Crestview Area Shelter for the Homeless in order to help people battling triple-digit outdoor temperatures.
During one of those incidents, longtime shelter President Ann Sprague determined that no one inside the shelter at 120 Duggan Ave. had called 911, so the responding paramedics went outside to look around the facility.

Crestview Police on Aug. 23 were continuing to investigate an apparent double murder-suicide that occurred last week at a home at 692 Brock Avenue, just south of downtown Crestview.

Crestview city manager: ‘We need to lower that millage rate’

Adams Sanitation prepares to service Crestview
Adams Sanitation, which will officially replace Waste Pro USA as Crestview’s solid waste collector on Oct. 1, plans to start delivering its trash and recycling roll carts and commercial dumpsters during the first week of September.
Waste Pro customers should continue placing items in the Waste Pro containers until Adams Sanitation’s white-colored garbage trucks start their pickups in the city.

New vape sensors at schools have been busy

County to consider higher hikes in water and sewer bills
At its Sept. 19 meeting, the Okaloosa County Commission plans to consider whether to adopt an updated water and sewer ordinance with a new and higher five-year rate plan.
With final approval, county water and sewer customers will see increases in their monthly water and sewer bills that are larger than the ones in the county’s current five-year rate plan.
