Drug addicts deserve compassion, Crestview mayor says at overdose awareness session
Local government officials cannot stop the production of fentanyl in China or prevent opioids from flowing into the United States, Crestview Mayor J.B. Whitten said at the mayor-hosted overdose awareness meeting on Aug. 31.
“But what we can do is educate people,” Whitten told about 75 attendees of the meeting, which was held on International Overdose Awareness Day and took place at the Crestview Community Center. “We can tell our people what’s available in terms of outreach, prevention, rehabilitation and follow-up programs.”

Kiwanis Club helps students look their best
The top reason why local youths miss school is they are embarrassed about their personal appearance, Kiwanis Club of Crestview member Roy Estes said.
“If we can help them with this, they might stay in class,” Estes said on Aug. 31 at Warriors Hall on Stillwell Boulevard, where he and other club members sorted and packed assorted hygiene products to benefit local students.

Crestview Police detectives believe the recent apparent double murder-suicide involving three senior citizens occurred on Aug. 15, Police Chief Stephen McCosker said on Aug. 30.
