To the relief of many residents who live near it, a 70-acre property on the northwest corner of U.S. Highway 90 and Mt. Olive Road east of Crestview will not be purchased by Okaloosa County for the site of the new county jail. The property stands about seven miles east of State Road 85 and across U.S. 90 from the Shoal River Ranch industrial park.

Starting at noon on Saturday, Dec. 9, the city of Crestview plans to begin blocking off all of Main Street and a portion of North Wilson Street for the city’s rescheduled Christmas Parade. The parade is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. If Mother Nature cooperates — and that might be a big “if” — the parade will follow the city’s Christmas tree-lighting ceremony that’s scheduled to start at 5 p.m. next to the Okaloosa County Veterans Memorial on the corner of North Main Street and Courthouse Terrace.

The panel brought together career field managers to discuss the history, current state, and future of the EOD program. EOD has only had 10 total career field managers for the entire program, and this was the first opportunity to bring them all together, putting 270 years of EOD experience on one stage.
