Two Crestview men were arrested and charged with possession of child pornography following the execution of a search warrant at their residence.
Crestview comes up with new zoning option to address density worries
The city’s least dense residential zoning currently allows four units per acre. The area surrounding the proposed annexation has homes sitting on one to five acres. After hearing residents’ concerns and the developer’s interest in easing those concerns, city staff proposed a new zoning district that reduces the density from four homes per acre to two.
Big new gas station, convenience store coming to Baker
A development order for the project was signed in mid-December and a site plan has been approved by the county, according to the development order. The gas station will be just across Galliver Cutoff from the Ritz Food Mart.

There’s a new Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office captain in town, following the retirement of Mark Raiche. e worked with the Sheriff’s Office 26 years, ending his career in the north end district that he loved, according to Sheriff Office spokeswoman Michele Nicholson.
Small fight breaks out at middle school basketball game
After a fight broke out between two girls at a basketball game between Shoal River Middle School and Bruner Middle School Jan. 20, officials made the tough call to suspend the game. They also decided to keep parents out of the boys basketball game that followed.
The fight lasted about 15 seconds, according to Steve Horton, assistant superintendent of the Okaloosa County School District.
PAWS director resigns, interim appointed
Tracey Williams, Executive Director of the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society, has announced that she has tendered her resignation to PAWS to pursue new opportunities. A press release announcing her resignation was sent out Thursday afternoon.
PAWS covered the City of Crestview’s animal control needs until Jan. 1, when the city announced it was taking over those services.

2 human trafficking suspects busted in I-10 traffic stop
Two men from Mexico were arrested Jan. 17 after it was discovered during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 that their vehicle contained nine occupants, all of which were in the country illegally.
