Community blood drive scheduled for June 15

Man wearing body armor, armed with AR-15, handgun arrested after shooting
A Shailmar man wearing body armor and armed with a semi-automatic AR-15 and a semi-automatic pistol has been arrested on multiple felony charges after allegedly shooting at a motorist.
Kyle Chapman, 26, of Shalimar, was arrested May 3 on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, firing into a moving vehicle, possession of a bulletproof vest and discharging a firearm in public.

Crestview florist sees beauty in unlikely places
Jeanette Volz says she is allergic to just about every flower there is. But that doesn’t stop her from doing what she loves.
Volz has been in the floral industry for about 20 years. She recently relocated her freelance florist business, JVolzdesigns, from Panama City Beach to a new home studio on JV Woolley Road in Crestview.

Council approves additional annexations
The city limits of Crestview continued to grow last week as the City Council voted to approve two additional annexations.
The council gave final approval to two annexation requests at the April 24 board meeting. The council approved an ordinance annexing two separate parcels, a 1-acre lot on Third Avenue and a 22.28-acre lot on Richburg Lane, and approved rezoning the properties as to mixed-use. In a separate ordinance, the board also approved annexing a 2.45-acre parcel on Richburg Lane.

‘We will not run out of gas’
The Daybreak Market/76 gas station at the intersection of Santa Rosa Drive and U.S. Highway 90, just west of East Spencer Field Road, is selling regular gas for $1.76 per gallon until 5 p.m. today. Mark Contos, vice president of the Daybreak Market company, said the store has 31,000 gallons available for the grand-opening special.

Crestview man arrested in fatal 2022 accident
A Crestview man has been charged following a lengthy investigation into a fatal accident that happened last December.
Derek Joseph Markheim, 33, of Crestview, was arrested and charged with one count of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide for a fatal crash that occurred on Dec. 5, 2022.

Holocaust survivor shares memories — and warnings
Nearly 150 people packed the Crestview Public Library meeting room April 21 to hear the story of Holocaust survivor Rudy Timmerman, who described his experiences in a German labor camp in Poland.
They were the first people in 75 years to hear Timmerman’s story.
