LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Please remember U.S. Flag etiquette

Dear editor,

Please put out a note informing people of the proper display of the United States Flag when flown on their property.

My biggest concern is during nightly hours when the flag should be illuminated — and I have noticed many flags are not.

This is what is stated in the U.S. Flag Code Section 6a: "when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness."

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Reader displeased with Okaloosa deputies

Dear editor,

I really wish the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office would do their jobs. How many times have the deputies gotten calls about underage drinking and have done nothing?  Or how many people were told by a deputy that their issues were not important enough for their time?

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Promises of a paved road weren’t kept

Dear editor,

I couldn't agree more about fixing the roads in Crestview! I bought my home eight years ago and was promised a road within the year.

Eight years later, I'm still living on a dirt road.

When is the county going to start caring about the people that live in it? My home has less value than it should because the road I live on is just red clay!

Help us live like humans instead of animals and fix the roads we live and work on!

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Crestview city leaders need to wake up

I feel that the council members need to wake up about growth.  Holding the contractors and businesses accountable for fixing the traffic flow problem and pushing the costs onto them is (unreasonable).

Don't they realize when businesses come into town, they receive tax revenue on that plus any other taxes they impose on them? Duh.

We need to vote out our current council and get some new fresher folks that understand growth and making Crestview a place to be for business and families. This will then bring more tax revenue and bigger business.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Crestview, take cue from Daytona sports center

Dear editor,

The International Motor Sports center in Daytona is being awarded the recycling recognition award. This is for their outstanding recycling of equipment used at the tracks and by reducing the amount of waste that is being sent to landfills.

I think it is amazing that a large organization like Daytona International Speedway, with the amount of domestic and international races that it holds each year, is able to make a substantial influence on recycling as well as cleaning the environment.

I have noticed that Crestview has not made many strides into this field; maybe the town could somehow increase the environmental awareness and compete for a similar award.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Get roads repaired so businesses can come

Dear editor,

Over the course of numerous years and councils of the past, we have had complaints about vehicle traffic and lack of restaurants and big business.

The perfect answer to these problems comes from a quote from Senator Gaetz that summed it up on how easy it is.

These words came from Mr. Gaetz: “'If you build it, they will come’ really does work in economic development,” he said. “If you build roads, economic development becomes much more possible. But if you neglect transportation infrastructure, economic development is almost impossible.”

Council members, please heed those words and not spend money on dog parks, sewage and water lines for anticipated future growth and other matters just to show you are doing something to show worth.

Let's get the roadwork in order so the business can come. Give it some thought, and plan for a bright city future. We are counting on you.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Crack down on deadbeat dads

Dear editor,

What is going on in Okaloosa County? All these deadbeat dads are getting away without paying courtordered child support and not even showing up for court.

Several of these “deadbeats” are behind in their payment obligation and dollar amount in back child support, and nothing is really done about it. A “parent” consistently ignores a family court order to the point that criminal court should become involved. They willfully fail to provide dependent support but have the ability to pay.

I think it’s about time to crack down on these people.

The smell of a cell, the feel of some cuffs or a hard labor camp will make these people come up with some money they swear they don’t have.

The only ones suffering are the innocent children.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Alley dispute could cost more than $55k

Dear editor,

If I am not mistaken, the city council and mayor work for the city's residents. (This) is the sorriest council in the country, in my opinion. I put 30 years in the military and have been around the world. This present council has the worst, uninformed, bad decision/policy making that I have ever seen.

They will spend more than $55,000 fighting this (alley situation) in court rather than settle.

That is just one indiscretion.

Too bad the whole bunch, especially Robyn Helt, cannot be impeached for not being informed and having the use of common sense.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Leaving dogs in hot cars should be criminal

Dear editor,

My wife and I ate breakfast at the Waffle House on South Ferdon in Crestview around 11:30 a.m. Monday. It was very hot outside. After we had finished eating, we went to our car and saw two lovely dogs who had been left unattended in a very hot car.

I wouldn't even think about leaving my dogs in a hot car while I eat.

We called the police and was told they would be out to check it out. We waited there for 15 minutes for the police to come out.

A woman did finally came out of the Waffle House and started to pet the dogs — not even bringing any water for them. My wife yelled over to her and said it was too hot for these dogs to be left in the car. The woman said, "Well, we haven't eaten yet; the dogs will be okay.”

We left at that, and the police still hadn't arrived.

I think the police should treat dogs being unattended in a hot car a priority, and arrest those involved. We need enforceable laws to protect these animals.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Remember who put you in office

Open letter to Councilman Joe Blocker:

Mr. Blocker,

Personally, I believe you should check yourself before you go demanding apologies from any of your constituents. Many of us have lived here a long time and have watched the corruption unfold before our eyes.

We have every right to voice our opinion.

Additionally, I would also say that if you were so terribly offended by such a calling out, it may just be because your own guilt is talking to you.

So just remember who put you in the office you now hold, Mr. Blocker — and who can put you out.

You will receive no apologies from those of us who know our rights.

What's your view? Write a letter to the editor.
