Trees down, power outages plentiful in Crestview
The familiar sound of power saws filled the air across North Okaloosa County on Friday morning as business and residents began cleanup after the overnight storm that struck the area.
Most of the damage seemed more cosmetic, but that face lift of getting downed branches and moving debris still had to be taken care of.

Sheriff: Shooting of airman by deputy was a ‘tragic event’
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy who fatally shot U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson last week “knocked on the correct door,” “announced himself twice” and shot Fortson because the airman “arrived at the door with a firearm in his hand,” Sheriff Eric Aden said at a news conference today.

1SOW Commander Col. Dierig on challenges, opportunities
Col. Patrick Dierig, the commander of the 1st Special Operations Wing (1SOW), is hitting the ground running after taking command from Col. Allison Black Feb. 23. As installation commander, Dierig oversees Hurlburt Field’s base support for the wing’s four groups and 24 squadrons, as well as more than 40 tenant units, including Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command.
