By late 2026, Okaloosa County School District officials plan to have seven portable classroom units adjacent to the Baker School bus ramp replaced with an addition containing 12 permanent classrooms.

A group of 15 students and teachers from middle and high schools in north Okaloosa County went on a behind-the-scenes tour of several local businesses on Friday.

Ashley Campbell took a less traveled road into the field of education and her third-grade classroom.

Campbell, who is the Riverside Elementary School Teacher of the Year, has been working with children since her teenage years, but only recently found herself teaching.

Stacy Grant admits she wasn’t always a fan of math, but now she teaches the subject at Shoal River Middle School.

“I love to change those misconceptions about math because I was one of those students,” she said. “I hated, and usually you hear, most students hate fractions. They hate word problems.

Amy Bowden always knew she wanted to be a teacher, but along the way her career path took an unexpected change as to the grade level.
