Okaloosa County asks community to help Stuff the Bus

| Aubrey Kelley

Getting students prepared to go back to school can be stressful. Parents are often handed a long list of items their child needs for certain classes ranging from three ring binders, notebooks, pencils, glue sticks, and the list goes on.

To relief the stress, the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation, Okaloosa County School District, and the Salvation Army Florida Division are partnering together for their upcoming “Stuff the Bus” event.

The event will take place on August 1 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at participating Walmart stores in Crestview, Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and Niceville. There will also be donation boxes placed at participating businesses throughout the county.

“Stuff the Bus” will be held during Florida’s back-to-school tax-free month, so any school items purchased will be negated of any state and local sales tax. This allows residents to make a direct impact by purchasing or donating school supplies as they shop while saving money.

Supplies purchased and donated will help ensure that students across Okaloosa County will have the essential items they need to begin the upcoming school year.

“Stuff the Bus is a wonderful example of our community coming together to support students and families,” Superintendent Marcus Chambers said. “Every notebook, backpack, and box of crayons donated helps remove barriers to learning and gives students the confidence to start the school year successfully.”
