Crestview Lady Bulldog star basketball player Elesi Simmons will be trading the sugar white sand of Okaloosa County with the snow of Colorado.

Simmons, who shared this year’s most valuable player of the year honors for the Lady Bulldogs with Katiya Casey, has committed to play for Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo.

There’s nothing to worry about as everything head coach Thomas Grant and the Bulldogs are doing is perfectly legal under Florida High School Athletic Association rules.

Still only a rising junior, Braylon Phillips has become a fixture on the Crestview High School varsity football team.

As a sophomore last fall, Phillips played wide receiver and defensive back. He was tied for second on the team with two touchdown receptions.

When first-year Baker baseball coach Preston Nixon asked who would be willing to catch this year, the first player to raise his hand was Ethan Williams.

Williams, a senior, had never caught before having pitched and played third base, but that didn’t matter. Williams is the type of player coaches through the years have come to expect a Baker Gator to be. A Jack of all trades is what Williams has become whether on the baseball diamond or football field.

Niceville handed the Bulldogs a 9-2 loss that was indicative of how the season went for Crestview.

Crestview continued its late-season surge with a 5-1 win over the Chiefs to close out the regular season with an 11-11 record.
