Commons ‘making community better’
Building a large-scale shopping center is never easy. Doing so through the COVID pandemic proved almost impossible at times for the developers of the Crestview Commons project.
Shortages in electric supplies, HVAC products and other construction materials have impacted the development of the project for years, said Martin DelleBovi, executive vice president of the Benchmark Group, the developer of Crestview Commons.

Trio looks to open ‘Family Fun Center’
Three area residents are working to bring a new blend of entertainment to the Hub City with their proposed Swingz Family Fun Center.
The proposed center could include an 18-hole miniature golf course, batting cages, an arcade, a craft brewery and at least one food vendor, all located across Antioch Road from the city-owned Blackwater Golf Club.

Child Life Flighted after Thursday afternoon crash
A 7-year-old child from Missouri sustained serious injuries and had to be flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital after a two-vehicle accident that temporarily closed down Antioch Road on Thursday afternoon.
An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office pickup truck was travelling south on State Road 85 when the collision occurred at the intersection of Antioch Road. According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the sheriff’s vehicle had the green light and travelled through the intersection.

Baker teen competing to be Miss Florida Teen USA
A Baker teenager could soon be the face of Florida.
Kadance Fredericksen, a student at Baker School, will compete against roughly 70 other teenagers at this year’s Miss Florida Teen USA pageant taking place May 12-14 at Coral Springs.

One of the primary focuses of the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation is the Take Stock in Children Scholarship Program, which provides two-year scholarships to deserving youth who may not attend college because of their family’s financial situation.

Women’s club opens mobile food pantry
More than a dozen people were on hand Tuesday afternoon, May 2, as the Greater Federation Women’s Club of Crestview celebrated the opening of its new mobile pantry, plant library and book library with a ribbon cutting.
The ceremony took place at the organization’s clubhouse at 150 Woodlawn Dr.

Flight school at Destin airport approved for veteran training
The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs has recently approved the flight school, Destin Flight Works, to train veterans who would like to use their VA benefits for flight training at Destin Executive Airport.
Destin Flight Works is an aircraft and helicopter training company approved by the Federal Aviation Administration under Title 14 CFR, Part 141.
