Because of a lack of customers, Rollerworld of Crestview closed for good on May 26, according to the roller rink’s co-owner, Jiani Hawks.

The closing of Okaloosa County’s sale of 48 acres of Shoal River Ranch industrial park land to a manufacturing company is targeted for mid-July, said Nathan Sparks, executive director of the One Okaloosa Economic Development Council. The company, the name of which has not yet been publicly revealed, aims to use the land for a 300,000-square-foot facility that would have 350 employees.

Workers are placing the finishing touches on various upgrades for Gene Clary Park. Laurel Hill officials used a $50,000 state grant to add a second basketball court and a second playground to the park, and to install fencing at the parking area.

One thing students attending Laurel Hill School never have to worry about is being just another face in the crowd.

The small K-12 school offers a safe haven that some students might have difficulty finding at a large school.

Brianna Mott, the second highest graduate in the Laurel Hill Class of 2023, went through a variety of educational experiences early in her school life.

The last five-and-a-half years though Mott has been at Laurel Hill School. Before coming to Laurel Hill she attended school across the country and around the world having gone to school in New Mexico and England.

As the top graduate of the Laurel Hill School Class of 2023, Long’s actions speak louder than her words.

Baker School salutatorian Stevie Mason isn’t a Baker lifer, but he is close to being one.

His family made the trip east on Highway 4 from Berrydale prior to his sixth-grade year.

The Ogelsby name is as common at Baker School as Smith or Jones.

Brothers David and Rusty Oglesby are longtime teachers and coaches. Their children have excelled in athletics and academics as well.

Every student has their own unique journey to high school graduation.

Some students attend school in the same town throughout their education and share memories with friends they’ve known since kindergarten. Other students come to a community or school while in elementary, middle or the first years of high school. Things are different for many students growing up in military families.

Crestview High School valedictorian Tyniyah Haughton will soon leave the security of her hometown of Crestview and embark on the adventure that will be her life.

She is a product of the Okaloosa County School District and has attended Crestview schools throughout her life. She started at Antioch Elementary School in kindergarten, went to Riverside Elementary, Shoal River Middle and finally Crestview High School.
