Crestview looks to build new park, police station and City Hall
The recent city-hosted Crestview Area Chamber of Commerce networking breakfast included the showing of a video of people talking about their favorite park in Crestview.
After the video ended, City Manager Tim Bolduc told attendees of the June 1 breakfast at the Crestview Community Center that his favorite city park “is the next one.”

First Florida deer found with Chronic Wasting Disease
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has confirmed that a road-killed 4.5-year-old female white-tailed deer in Holmes County sampled during routine surveillance activities has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD). It is the first known case of CWD in Florida, a contagious disease of the brain and central nervous system that is fatal to deer. The first case of CWD in North America was described in mule deer in Colorado in 1967. Florida is the most recent of 31 states to detect the disease, which also has been confirmed in four Canadian provinces, Finland, Norway, Sweden and South Korea.

Laurel Hill eyes new welcome signs
LAUREL HILL – Officials from Okaloosa County’s oldest and northernmost city plan to use tourist development tax money to pay for two new welcome signs.
The monument-style signs will stand on the north and south ends of the city along State Road 85. Each sign will contain the words, “Welcome to Laurel Hill, Okaloosa County’s oldest city.”

Elder Services helps seniors beat the heat
Continuing a tradition that began many years ago, Elder Services of Okaloosa County has several electrical fans and window air-conditioning units that area senior citizens can pick up free of charge.
The fans and window A/C units, which were donated by local organizations and businesses, are available on a first come, first served basis.

Crestview green lights conceptual plats for two neighborhoods
The conceptual plats of two major proposed single-family-home subdivisions, in the north and southwest parts of Crestview, respectively, received the Crestview City Council’s approval on June 12.
