Crestview student receives building trades scholarship

Troy Young, a Crestview High School Senior, received the Robert and Amy Harper Scholarship at the International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The scholarship is awarded to one high school student who plans a trade career. Out of 72 schools in the State of Florida and over 300 nationwide, Young won the award for his achievements in the building program at Crestview High School. He has earned six certifications in construction and HVAC and is a lead project manager and designer of the Capstone class project.

Crestview’s McArty among Gaetz’ military academy nominees

Navarre and Niceville high schools each had five students nominated by U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz for enrollment in the nation’s military academies.

“The Raiders definitely have a home advantage,” Gaetz joked as friends and family cheered each NHS nominee during a ceremony Jan. 17 in the school’s cafeteria/auditorium. “They’re well represented.”

It hasn’t taken the new Skills to Build class offered at Davidson Middle School to become a favorite elective with the students.

There are currently 125 students enrolled in the class, 25 in each of five periods and students are being turned away from the program introduced to the school this year.
