Texas man sentenced in ’22 death of a deputy by Laurel Hill

| Staff Reporters
Tristan Cole Parker of Midlothian, Texas, was sentenced today to 20 years in prison for charges stemming from a vehicle crash that killed an off-duty deputy just east of Laurel Hill a little over two years ago.

On Oct. 15, 2022, the then-28-year-old Parker was driving a 2012 Dodge bucket truck southbound on Robinson Road (County Road 393) in Okaloosa County at 62 mph in a 30-mph-zone, Florida Highway Patrol officials said today in a news release.

Parker failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the truck he was driving to collide with a 2011 Jeep driven by an off-duty Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputy from Pensacola, FHP officials said.

They said the deputy was pronounced dead on scene and his daughter, who was a passenger in his vehicle, suffered significant injuries. She was transported to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center in critical condition and was later flown to Shands Hospital in Gainsville.

“During the investigation, it was discovered that Parker was under the influence at the time of the crash, with a blood alcohol level of .157 six hours after the crash,” FHP officials said.

Parker was arrested the night of the incident and booked into the Okaloosa County Jail. He was sentenced today in county court on the charges of DUI manslaughter causing death, DUI causing serious bodily injury, and driving without a license.
