At 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, an unmarked FHP vehicle occupied by two troopers tried to stop a white Toyota Corolla on westbound Interstate 10 near the 73-mile marker. The vehicle was pointed out to them by other motorists as driving recklessly, and they identified that the vehicle exhibited an expired tag, FHP officials said in a news release.

The Toyota fled reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The vehicle exited onto southbound, State Road 285 (Exit 70). The fleeing vehicle continued south until mile-marker 9 and turned left onto Range Road 201. After conducting its left turn, the pursuing troopers utilized the Precision Immobilization Technique (Pit Maneuver) and brought the pursuit to an end.

The vehicle was found to be occupied by three adults and an 18-month-old child.

The driver, 30-year-old Kyle Lee Bird, of Zephyrhills, was arrested and charged with reckless driving, aggravated fleeing to elude, child endangerment, felony possession of methamphetamine, and felony possession of a marijuana derivative.

The front right passenger and child’s mother, 31-year-old Marissa Lynn Brimlow, of Riverview, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and felony violation of probation.

The adult rear passenger was not charged.

There were no injuries associated with this incident and the child was released to representatives with the Department of Children and Family Services.
