“This threat stemmed from Okaloosa County’s purchase and future plans for the ship the SS United States,” S.O. officials said. “During this investigation, the suspect was identified as Trey Everts Roots, who is currently residing in Cherokee, Oklahoma.”
Upon notification of the case and its findings to the Oklahoma District 26, District Attorney’s Council, they initiated an investigation where Roots was ultimately arrested and charged with making a bomb threat and violation of Oklahoma statute via a computer. Their investigation was aided by the Cherokee Police Department and Alfalfa Sheriff’s Office in Cherokee, Oklahoma.
The investigation yielded that Roots was not in possession of precursor materials for making a bomb, nor was he ever in Okaloosa County, S.O. officials said.
They gave special thanks to the Oklahoma District 26, District Attorney’s Council, Cherokee Police Department, and Alfalfa Sheriff’s Office.
Okaloosa County officials are currently having hazardous materials removed from the SS United States, which is docked in the Port of Mobile, Alabama. By late this year or early 2026, they plan for the ship to become “the world’s largest artificial reef” off the coast of Destin-Fort Walton Beach.
