Thunderbirds returning to Eglin after more than a decade

| Collin Bestor

It has been more than 10 years since Eglin Air Force Base opened its gates to the public for an air show. In April 2027, that will change.

“Yes, the Thunderbirds will be here in April,” a spokesperson for the 96th Test Wing said.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will perform a two-day air show at Eglin on April 10-11, according to airshowstuff.com. No other performers have been announced.

The Thunderbirds were officially activated May 25, 1953, and are based at Nellis Air Force Base. They are America’s second-oldest flight demonstration squadron. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels were formed in 1946.

The Thunderbirds have flown the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon as their primary aircraft since 1983.
