The Florida Department of Transportation said in a press release that eastbound traffic on U.S. Highway 98 will be reduced to one lane from Robys Drive to La Brista Beach Circle in Okaloosa County at 8 p.m. Tuesday. During this time, crews will perform temporary drainage pipe repairs. Westbound U.S. 98 traffic lanes will not be impacted.
All lanes will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Robys Drive and La Brista Beach Circle are approximately half a mile apart.
The original project to install a drainage pipe beneath U.S. 98 from Robys Drive to Woodland Park Circle was expected to take seven days.
“Crews have restored all lanes of traffic this morning,” said Kohen Johns Brannon, FDOT publication information specialist. “FDOT engineers are currently developing a new construction plan to complete the pipe replacement project with the least amount of impact to the traveling public. Once the new plan is approved, FDOT will alert the public to any traffic impacts along the construction corridor.”
The scheduled work is part of the overall U.S. 98 resurfacing project in Okaloosa County, which extends from west of Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast.
FDOT said all activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
