I remember being amazed that Dad, being so old in his late 20s, could still run. What I don’t remember is having free run of the area around the field’s fence.

Legendary Alabama football coach Nick Saban recently talked about his decision to retire and the factors that played into it.
Saban was torn between returning for the 2024 season and stepping down. He felt the Crimson Tide had all the key components needed to contend for another National Championship.

We hear it all the time, “Records are made to be broken.”
My question is, what defines breaking a record?

The Southeastern Conference as a generation has known it is about to change.
When the spring sport season ends in a few months, those schools I’ll never associate with the Southeastern region of the United States, Oklahoma and Texas, will be joining the league. Does it make the conference stronger? In theory, yes.

With the start of the spring sports season the final third of the academic sports year is upon us.
The next two-and-a-half months will fly by and lead to spring football, followed by graduations and the start of another summer. The cycle of life for a high school sports writer follows the academic calendar that varies very little from one school year to the next.

Never in a million years did this old Gulf Breeze Dolphin imagine I’d be writing this, but the Milton boys basketball team was thrown under the bus by the Florida High School Athletic Association last week when the region tournament was released.

And just like that two years have passed.
Yes, it was two years ago, Feb. 14, 2022, that I returned to the job in my work life that I have enjoyed the most, writing about sports for the Crestview News Bulletin. I will always be grateful for Sandi Kemp bringing me back to the area to do what I believe God created me to do.

With all due respect for all the other sports, my favorite season starts preseason play on Monday and begins the regular season a week later on February 19.
Those of you that know me realize I’m talking about the start of high school baseball season. There’s just something about baseball that draws me to the diamond. Even as the years pass, the sweetest echoes of my youth were the chatter at a baseball game.

If you are having trouble keeping up with movement in the college football transfer portal you’re not alone. There have been more players taking a hike to another program than there are stupid bills before Congress, and that’s a lot.
