Barbecue cook-off and fire truck pull will benefit seniors

The events “are our two signature fundraisers,” Kim Fraley, executive director of Elder Services of Okaloosa County, said on Wednesday.

Elder Services manages the Crestview Manor at 603 N. Pearl St. in Crestview and the Twin Cities Pavilion at 1053 John Sims Parkway in Niceville.
Both of the upcoming fundraisers will take place at 3rd Planet Brewing, 1400 E. John Sims Parkway.
First up is the Fifth Annual Barbecue Cook-Off, which is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8.
Independent judges will taste cook-off entries throughout the event and will award a first-, second- and third place winner. Attendees can be the judge with a $35 tasting ticket, which includes a vote and two drink tickets. Kids under 12 can join in on the judging for $12.
Up next will be the Fourth Annual Charity Fire Truck Pull on Saturday, April 12.
In this event, teams of 10 will compete to see which squad can pull a fire truck the fastest over a distance of 100 feet, Fraley said. This event also will include a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, a free kid’s fun pull, and face painting.
Check-in for the teams competing in the fire truck pull is at 10:30 a.m. and the first pull is set for noon.
Money raised at the cook-off and fire truck pull will help pay for major projects at the Crestview Manor and Twin Cities Pavilion, Fraley said. Examples of prior major projects include the installation of a new elevator and the remodeling of resident rooms at the Manor.
