Crestview open district tournament with win

Things didn’t go so well for Crestview against the Lady Dolphins as Gulf Breeze swept the match 5-0. The Lady Bulldogs finished their second season of beach volleyball with a record of 7-8.

Monday’s match with Marianna was almost all Crestview with the top four teams winning.

Dina Sheikho and Kaeden Foxx took the battle of one seeds.  Crestview’s two seed team of Aubrey Sheffield and Kennedy Harrell also won as did three seed Sara Robinson-Harmer and Avery Price, and four seed Hope Staughtenburgh and Camille Reeves.

As are his players, Crestview coach James Kerrell is still learning the finer points of the beach game, but he likes what he saw from his team against Marianna.

“The girls played a great match in less-than-ideal conditions,” he said. “With the wind blowing, we had to make some adjustments and really pay attention to our surroundings. The girls did a great job of adjusting and pulling out the win in our first district tournament.”

Crestview beach volleyball sweeps home finale

The five seed team of Shaynia Faust and Kelsy Griffin completed the sweep. In an unofficial match that didn’t count in the team scores, the CHS six seed team, Shelby Anderson and Codi Whitfield, won as well.

Crestview coach James Kerrell sees his team playing some of their best volleyball at just the right time.

“We are coming together, and you want to be coming together at district time,” he said. “We’re doing a much better job of communicating with each other and the girls are really seeming to jell real well.

“We’ve made a lot of improvement from last year at this point. I was really pleased at the way they played. They played aggressive and played smart and that’s what we have to do.”

Crestview opens district tournament play next week. Days and times had yet to be released for the tournament as of Thursday night.

Crestview beach volleyball hosts first match

Crestview hosted Pace on Tuesday in the first match home match in school history with the Lady Patriots coming out on top 3-2.

Lady Bulldog coach James Kerrell appreciates the support fans showed in turning out for the match.

“It was a beautiful day for beach volleyball,” he said. “It was exciting to see a great crowd come out and support us in our first home match ever. Our girls played hard and came up a little bit short.

“We are steadily improving each day and figuring out the little things in beach volleyball needed to be successful.  The competition this year is much better than last year and the teams we have faced have improved quite a bit.”
