Laurel Hill woman dies in crash

| Tony Judnich
A 48-year-old Laurel Hill woman died in a two-vehicle accident in Washington County early Friday morning.

The accident occurred at 5:22 a.m. Friday at U.S. Highway 90 and Dalton Street, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report provided on Sunday.

FHP officials said the woman’s Nissan Rogue was traveling east within the eastbound outside lane on U.S. 90. A Freightliner Cascadia, driven by a 30-year-old man from Dothan, Alabama, was traveling west within the westbound inside lane on U.S. 90.

According to a witness and dashboard camera footage, the Nissan failed to keep in a single lane and started drifting from the eastbound outside lane to the eastbound inside lane, then across the double yellow center lines into the westbound inside lane.

The front of the Nissan collided with the front of the Freightliner. The collision caused the Nissan to be redirected southwest, while veering 360 degrees. The Nissan came to final rest back in the eastbound inside lane, facing northeast.

The Freightliner came to a controlled stop partially within the westbound left turn lane, and partially within the westbound inside lane, facing southwest.

The driver of the Nissan was declared dead on scene. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
