Two seriously injured in early morning wreck

| Staff Reporters
A 21-year-old man from Fort Walton Beach and his passenger, a 19-year-old man from Crestview, were both critically injured in a car crash early this morning at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Gulf National Sea Shore Drive on Okaloosa Island.

At about 12:38 a.m., a GMC Yukon was traveling eastbound in the inside lane of U.S. 98 when the vehicle’s left-side tires left the roadway and entered the sandy shoulder, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The driver tried to re-enter the roadway, at which point the vehicle began to overturn. The vehicle overturned across the westbound lanes and came to final rest in the outside shoulder area facing north.

Neither man was wearing a seatbelt, according to the report.
