They said the Purple Star District designation means that every Okaloosa County School District school has met the rigorous requirements to be named a Purple Star School of Distinction, and that it underscores the district’s commitment to going above and beyond for those who serve our country.
“Earning the Purple Star District designation is a testament to the incredible work of our schools and staff. We are deeply committed to supporting military families and ensuring their children thrive in our schools,” OCSD Superintendent Marcus Chambers said in the news release. “This honor validates our efforts to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all military-connected students.”
The district supports the highest percentage of military students in any Florida county, said district officials, who added that this distinction brings with it a profound responsibility to serve those who serve our nation.
“We began tracking the Purple Star program when it was first proposed during the 2021 legislative session, and we are thrilled to see our schools recognized for their dedication to our military community,” Chambers said.
The district also extends its gratitude to state Rep. Patt Maney for his instrumental role in bringing the Purple Star program to Florida. “Representative Maney’s support and leadership have been key in making this program a reality,” Chambers said. “His advocacy ensures that Florida schools, including ours, are equipped to meet the unique needs of military-connected students.”
