Crestview sets meeting to choose new councilmember

| Tony Judnich
City of Crestview officials have scheduled a special City Council meeting for 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, to interview candidates and choose who will replace Joe Blocker in the Precinct 1 council seat.

The meeting will take place in the council chambers at City Hall, 198 N. Wilson St., before the council’s regular session at 6 p.m.

Blocker, 90, recently told city officials he must resign from the council because he has “some challenging medical concerns now that need my full attention.” His resignation will take effect this Saturday.

Blocker began serving on the council in 2013. His current term as the Precinct 1 councilmember expires in November 2026. The Precinct 1 area stands between U.S. Highway 90 and Interstate 10.

City officials announced Blocker’s resignation at the Nov. 18 council meeting and then began seeking applicants to fill the Precinct 1 seat.

Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old, a United States citizen, and a resident of Precinct 1. The selected candidate will serve the remainder of Blocker’s term.

Interested individuals can apply online at CityofCrestview.org. For more information, contact City Clerk Maryanne Girard at (850) 682-1560 ext. 250 or girardm@cityofcrestview.org.
