The man was one of three passengers in an SUV that was being driven in the outside lane by a 72-year-old woman from Milton and was eastbound near mile marker 23 at 4:05 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. The woman slowed down for other slowing traffic, but a 75-year-old Milton woman who was driving a sedan behind the SUV failed to slow in time, and the sedan hit the rear of the SUV, according to the FHP.
The Crestview man, who was sitting behind the driver of the SUV, succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. A 64-year-old Crestview woman who also was a passenger in the SUV suffered serious injuries, and a 63-year-old Milton woman who also was a passenger in this vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The sedan’s driver suffered minor injuries. Both drivers and the three passengers were each wearing a seatbelt.
The FHP did not provide the names of the drivers or passengers and did not say whether the sedan’s driver faced any charges.
