Representatives of the agency say mentors need to spend only one hour per week to change a child’s life.
“Our Site-Based Mentoring program focuses on personal success and academic achievement through weekly mentoring sessions held at the Little’s school,” BBBS officials said in a news release. “Bigs and Littles meet during the school day for about one hour, spending time together in ways that help a child feel supported, encouraged, and motivated.”
Activities may include:
- Eating lunch together
- Playing games or doing crafts
- Going to the playground
- Working on homework or reading
- Setting goals and sharing conversation
“It may sound simple, but sometimes the best place to help a child realize their potential is at school,” BBBS officials said. “Children enjoy having a Big Brother or Big Sister visit them there, whether it’s in the classroom or on the playground, and parents see firsthand the positive impact it makes.
“We are seeking local adults who are willing to give just one hour a week to start a friendship, provide guidance, and inspire a child to reach their full potential.”
