“We are saddened to announce that the ongoing search for missing endangered adult Angela Stroheker of Baker ended Tuesday night with the discovery of her body in the Blackwater River State Forest,” Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office officials said in a Facebook post on Wednesday. “She was found in a wooded area, where she was known to hunt and hike, with the assistance of Legacy K9 Search Team. No foul play is suspected. We send our sincere sympathies to her family and loved ones and we also want to thank all our citizens who helped share the missing person flyer in hopes of finding her safe.”
Stroheker, of State Road 4 in Baker, had last been seen between 4-5 p.m. on Aug. 17 near her home. A family member reported her missing on Aug. 18.
Sheriff’s Office officials thanked Legacy K9 Search Team members for their help in the search. At least three dog teams from Alabama, Mississippi, and Pensacola joined in the search.
The efforts by the Legacy members “were invaluable in helping to provide some closure for her loved ones who had been waiting so anxiously for word,” Sheriff’s Office officials said.
Legacy K9 Search Team is a self-funded, all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that provides emergency response services. The team collaborates with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to respond to search and rescue/recovery needs.
