The accident occurred at 10:09 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 293 (Danny Wuerffell Way) and Commons Boulevard.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, the 25-year-old woman was driving an SUV southbound on SR 293 approaching the intersection of Commons Boulevard in the left turn lane. The other vehicle, which was a pickup truck being driven by a 43-year-old man from Niceville, was traveling northbound on SR 293 approaching the intersection of Commons Boulevard in the inside lane.

The driver of the SUV initiated a left turn into the truck’s path, resulting in a collision, according to the FHP. The front of the truck collided with the right side of the SUV. Both vehicles came to final rest blocking the northbound lanes of SR 293.

The 44-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the SUV, had to be extracted from the vehicle by first responders from Destin Fire Rescue. She was hospitalized with serious injuries.
